The Goo Goo Dolls have canceled the rest of their Canadian tour after singer John Rzeznik fell ill with pneumonia. In a message shared by the band, the group said Rzeznik has been under medical care but has not recovered enough to continue performing. The announcement brings an early end to the band’s scheduled run across Canada.

The canceled dates included shows in several cities that were set for this stretch of the tour. Fans who bought tickets can get refunds through their original point of purchase, according to the band’s update.

The decision pauses live plans for now, but it does not appear to affect everything on the group’s calendar. The Goo Goo Dolls are still scheduled for a pair of Las Vegas performances in May, followed by a summer tour with Neon Trees.

Rzeznik’s illness comes as the band continues a busy period of touring activity. For now, the focus is on his recovery, with the group stepping back from the road until he is well enough to return.

Guns N’ Roses reached back into their early 1990s catalog during a recent show in São Paulo, bringing Bad Apples back to the stage for the first time in 35 years. The song appeared during the band’s April 4 set at Monsters of Rock Brazil and stood out as one of the night’s biggest surprises.

The performance marked a rare return for a track that originally appeared on Use Your Illusion I. It had only been played live twice before, both in 1991, which made the São Paulo version a notable moment for longtime fans following the band’s live history.

Bad Apples was never one of the group’s most visible singles, but it has remained a favorite among listeners who know the deeper cuts from that era. Its return added an unexpected twist to a set built around major songs that have defined the band for decades.

The moment also showed how Guns N’ Roses continue to mix familiar hits with lesser-played material as their current tour moves through South America.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — High-scoring Michigan had to get down and dirty to dig out the national title Monday, making only two 3-pointers all night but still muscling its way to a 69-63 victory over stingy, stubborn UConn.

Elliot Cadeau led the Wolverines with 19 points, including the team’s first 3, which came 7:04 into the second half. The second, from freshman Trey McKenney, came with 1:50 left and felt like a dagger, giving the Wolverines a nine-point lead.

To no one’s surprise, UConn fought to the finish — Solo Ball banked in a 3 to cut it to four with 37 seconds left — and after two missed free throws, UConn’s Alex Karaban (17 points) barely grazed the rim on a 3 that would’ve cut the deficit to one with 17 seconds left.

Not until McKenney sank two free throws to bring Michigan’s shooting from the line to 25 for 28 for the night could the Wolverines (37-3) kick off the celebration for the program’s second title — the other coming in 1989.

But this game had a 1950s feel to it.

Michigan had to fight for everything. The Wolverines missed their first 11 shots from 3, finished 2 for 15 from there and won despite the struggles of its best player, Yaxel Lendeborg. Ailing with a hurt knee and foot that kept him from elevating, the graduate transfer from UAB finished with 13 points on 4-for-13 shooting.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents scheduled a Tuesday vote to consider firing the system's president, who refused their offer to quietly resign because he said no reason had been given for the surprise ouster.

Jay Rothman said in two letters sent to regents that he would not resign from leading the 165,000-student system without an explanation of what he had done wrong.

Board of Regents President Amy Bogost said in a statement Monday that Rothman “was not without notice, nor was this process sudden.”

“The Board has engaged with President Rothman in good-faith discussions over the past several months,” she said.

The board scheduled the termination vote for 5 p.m. Tuesday. Rothman did not immediately return an email seeking comment.

The vote is scheduled for just five days after The Associated Press first reported that the board asked Rothman to either resign or face being fired.

Rothman has been president of the multicampus university system since 2022. His letters were the first public indication that Rothman’s job was in jeopardy and took university and state government officials by surprise.

The move to quickly and quietly oust Rothman drew fire on Friday from Republican state Rep. David Murphy, chair of the Wisconsin Assembly’s colleges and universities committee.

“This lack of transparency is unacceptable,” Murphy said. “President Rothman deserves to know exactly why the Board has lost confidence in his leadership.”

Bogost said it was a time of “profound change” in higher education and “this decision is about the future.”

“The Universities of Wisconsin must be led with a clear vision that both protects and strengthens our flagship, support our comprehensive universities and ensures we are meeting the evolving needs of our students, workforce and communities across all 72 counties,” she said.

Rothman’s tenure has been marked by his efforts to increase state funding amid federal cuts, debates over free speech on campus amid pro-Palestinian protests, and declining enrollment leading to eight branch campus closures even as enrollment overall held steady.

Rothman can be fired for no stated reason and he has no appeal rights, said Wisconsin employment law attorney Tamara Packard, who reviewed Rothman’s contract at the AP’s request.

Under the contract, Rothman would have to be given six-months’ notice of his termination. In practice, what usually happens is the person is told to focus on transitioning their duties and not actually work in the office any longer, Packard said.

Rothman has had to navigate negotiations with a Republican-controlled Legislature during his tenure and a board of regents with a majority of appointees from Democratic Gov. Tony Evers. The board was controlled by Evers appointees when Rothman was hired.

Evers is not seeking a third term, meaning there will be a new governor next year with the power to make appointments to the board of regents. The board is in charge of hiring and firing university leaders.

Evers, when asked Monday about the board's desire to oust Rothman, didn't take a side.

“It's their call,” Evers said of the board.

The fight over Rothman’s future also comes as the flagship Madison campus is losing its chancellor. Jennifer Mnookin is leaving at the end of the current academic year in May to take the job as president of Columbia University.

Rothman, the former chair and CEO of the Milwaukee-based Foley & Lardner law firm, had no prior experience administering higher education.

His salary as UW president is $600,943.

John Blackwell is leaving Wisconsin after scoring 19.1 points per game for the Badgers this season.

Blackwell issued an Instagram post Monday saying he won’t return to Wisconsin next season and is instead going through the NBA draft process while also entering his name in the transfer portal. The transfer portal for basketball officially opens Tuesday. He credited coach Greg Gard for helping him grow as a player.

“That growth is exactly what’s driving this decision," Blackwell wrote on Instagram. I believe I owe it to myself and my family to chase the highest level I can reach, and this is the right time to take that step and leap of faith.”

A pair of Tennessee players announced intentions to enter the portal Monday after helping the Volunteers (25-12) to the Elite Eight. J.P. Estrella, a 6-foot-11 forward, averaged 10 points and 5.4 rebounds, while guard Bishop Boswell started 33 of 34 games this season.

And Florida backup center Micah Handlogten is planning to enter the portal, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because Handlogten had not made his intensions public. The 7-foot-1 senior is currently out of eligibility, but seeking another year.

Handlogten broke his left leg during the Southeastern Conference tournament in March 2024 and planned to redshirt the following season. But he changed his mind late in the season and chose to play the final 16 games, helping the Gators win the national championship. He is appealing to the NCAA for that to be considered a redshirt season.

He averaged 4.2 points and 6.0 rebounds in three seasons at Florida. He played his freshman year at Marshall.

Handlogten's decision might be an indication the Gators are getting starters Rueben Chinyelu and Alex Condon back for another year. Chinyelu and Condon have not yet indicated their intentions, although teammates Boogie Fland, Urban Klavzar, Alex Lloyd and brothers Isaiah and Noah Brown are returning.

Blackwell, meanwhile, averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists for Wisconsin as a junior while helping the Badgers go 24-11. The 6-4 guard made 2.8 3-pointers a game and shot 38.9% from beyond the arc.

He played particularly well late in the year. Blackwell scored 24 points as Wisconsin beat Purdue in its regular-season finale. He averaged 26 points in three Big Ten Tournament games, including 34 against Washington and 31 in an overtime victory over Illinois.

Blackwell scored 22 points in Wisconsin’s 83-82 NCAA Tournament first-round loss to High Point.

He earned third-team all-Big Ten honors from the league’s coaches and media. Blackwell didn’t make the Associated Press all-Big Ten team, which includes only a first team and second team.

Blackwell had 15.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game as a sophomore in 2024-25.

“My time in Madison has truly changed my life,” Blackwell said. “Through every high and every tough loss, Badger Nation showed up with unwavering support. I’m beyond grateful — and I’ll carry that with me always. My prayer is that you understand my decision. Madison will always be second home to me for the rest of my life. This place and this community will always be part of who I am.”

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - ATVs and UTVs will be breaking the dust off of them in the coming weeks with warmer temperatures on the horizon.

That means it is a good time to get a refresher on the safety needed to operate these machines.

Prevent bear encounters: Wisconsin DNR’s tips for a safe spring

"The popularity of ATVs and UTVs has grown significantly over the past few years, and with that there are a lot more units on the trails, which can always pose more danger," said Ken's Sports Green Bay owner Brad Majeski. "So the manufacturers have taken steps to make sure these machines are safe. They understand as they improve these units, they are faster, and speed is always a concern."

Helmet improvements, new regulations on how many people can ride on the back of an ATV and roll cage improvements are just some ways the machines are getting safer.

But it can come back to the driver to make sure they are being safe.

"The consumer has to take responsibility, just like with anything else, whether it's a snowmobile, a boat or your car," said Majeski. "The consumer has to take their own responsibility in operating the unit safely on the trails and on the roads."

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says that means getting certified to drive on the roads and trails in Northeast Wisconsin.

"No matter how old you get, you'll never age out of it. You need that ATV safety certification through the department," said Jason Roberts, a warden for the Wisconsin DNR. "So if you get stopped by me, another warden, deputy or a local cop, they're going to ask you for that in addition to your regular driver's license."

And even if you think you do not need a helmet to drive a UTV, think again.

"People have these enclosed UTVs where they feel like they're in a motor vehicle," said Roberts. "They do not have the same security systems that a motor vehicle has, as far as airbags and a reinforced cage around it, you know, the seat belt systems."

The DNR also says to check with local sporting groups and UTV clubs for more information on safety checks for your machine and the local trails and roadways.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Fewer individuals are graduating from educator preparation programs in Wisconsin, and an even smaller share are going on to become licensed teachers in the state, according to state education officials.

State Superintendent Jill Underly said data from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction shows school districts statewide continue to face staffing shortages, high turnover and a shrinking pipeline of new teachers entering the profession.

Easter fun for all at NEW Zoo’s annual Eggstravaganzoo event

“About 30 percent of new educator preparation graduates are leaving for other states or are not becoming Wisconsin teachers,” Underly said. “And among those who do stay, only 52 percent are still teaching in Wisconsin by their eighth year.”

The trend has raised concerns in Green Bay, where local school leaders and higher education officials met on Monday to discuss possible solutions.

One major focus is teacher pay.

“As this report shows, adjusted for inflation, mid-career teachers in Wisconsin earn 22 percent less than they did 15 years ago,” Underly said. “This is unacceptable. It’s not sustainable, nor is it competitive.”

Local educators say stronger financial investment and community backing will be critical to reversing the trend.

“We need a budget that supports education and the backing of our community,” said Green Bay Public Schools teacher Andrea Huggett. “We need to invest in our public schools because that’s where real change will happen.”

Underly warned that ongoing staffing challenges could lead to larger class sizes, fewer course offerings and less individualized support for students.

“It’s our students who feel it most,” she said.

The Latest from Storm Team 5...

We dealt with brief, passing rain, snow or graupel showers today especially in the morning and early afternoon. These thankfully did not add much mositure to the ground as area rivers and streams are still running high. Flood Warnings remain active across northeast WI.

We should be quiet for the rest of today but cant rule out a passing flurry or sprinkle in the clouds. As the clouds clear out tonight, it will be cold with lows falling into the teens to around 20 degrees.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny, calm but seasonally cool with highs only reaching the upper 30s to low 40s. Thats ten degrees below normal for early April.

Interesting weather day on tap for Wednesday. It will be cool enough ahead of a warm front for a morning mix of rain and snow changing over to all rain by mid morning. Then we catch a break and a strong southwest wind warms us up into the mid and upper 50s. Finally, the cold front drops in and breaks a chance for rain in the evening and overnight.

Besides a weak system clipping the southern half of the area Thursday night, the end of the week looks dry and mild. Saturday will be the pick day of the weekend as rain and no severe rumbles of thunder are expected for Sunday into Monday.

(The Hill) – Byron Allen's "Comics Unleashed" is officially moving into "The Late Show's" time slot when the Stephen Colbert-hosted series takes its final bow on CBS next month.

The comedy-centric show, hosted by media mogul Allen, will debut in the 11:35 p.m. time slot beginning May 22, CBS announced Monday. The network said it would air back-to-back half-hour "Comics Unleashed" episodes on weekdays.

The change comes after CBS, in a stunning move last July, announced it was ending "The Late Show" this year.

“This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,” CBS said in a statement at the time.

Colbert, who helmed "The Late Show" since 2015 after taking the reins from longtime host David Letterman, is known for being one of President Trump's most vocal critics in late-night TV. His final show is poised to air on May 21.

As part of the arrangement, Allen pays CBS to lease the late-night timeslot. The benefit for CBS, ITK hears, is that the network will generate profit as part of the time-buy agreement, which covers the 2026 to 2027 TV season.

The Allen Media Group CEO had previously been airing "Comics Unleashed" on CBS in the 12:37 p.m. spot; another Allen show, "Funny You Should Ask," will air in that time slot following Colbert's exit.

“I created and launched 'Comics Unleashed' 20 years ago so my fellow comedians could have a platform to do what we all love — make people laugh,” Allen said in a statement.

"I truly appreciate CBS’ confidence in me by picking up our two-hour comedy block of 'Comics Unleashed' and 'Funny You Should Ask,' because the world can never have enough laughter," Allen said.
