KEWASKUM, Wis. (WFRV) – A search for suspects allegedly involved in multiple vehicle break-ins in Washington, Fond du Lac, and Sheboygan Counties led officers on a search for a discarded loaded firearm in a residential neighborhood.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Kewaskum Police Department took one suspect into custody who was allegedly tied to recent vehicle entries in the area.
During the investigation, officers were informed of a loaded firearm that had been discarded in the area of Braatz Drive and Gavin Parkway, an area close to a residential neighborhood with many children, officers say.
With help from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit, authorities conducted a thorough search and safely located the firearm hidden in a bush near the dead end of Gavin Parkway.
Officers also noted that the suspects tied to the vehicle break-ins are believed to be involved in similar incidents elsewhere, including Sheboygan County.
“I would further like to sincerely thank the community members who submitted videos and other information. Your vigilance and willingness to share what you saw has been instrumental in helping us make progress in this case,” Chief Tom Bishop of the Kewaskum Police Department stated.
The investigation continues. No additional details have been provided.
