(WFRV) – Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) says it is busy preparing local northeast Wisconsin residents for the bitter and dangerously cold weather.
WPS has crews on standby, ready for any developing situations that may arise during the current cold snap, and is reminding customers of alternative ways to heat their homes and stay warm this weekend.

“If you plan on using a space heater, only use one if it’s a newer model that has advanced safety features like automatic shutoff, and if you use that space heater, make sure to keep it at least six feet away from any flammable materials, like curtains or drapes,” stated WPS Spokesperson Matt Cullen.
Cullen also advises checking your furnace filter to ensure it allows warm air to circulate, and to turn down the thermostat while you’re away so your furnace doesn’t have to work as hard when you’re not home.
