GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Following reports from nearly a week ago, the search for Green Bay’s next defensive coordinator is over with former Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon being officially named to the vacant role.
According to a release from the Green Bay Packers, Head Coach Matt LaFleur confirmed on Monday that Jonathan Gannon will be joining the Packers’ staff.
We are thrilled to add Jonathan Gannon to our coaching staff. He possesses tremendous experience as an NFL coordinator and head coach. I am confident that he will be an outstanding addition to our organization, as well as a strong leader of our defense. We welcome Jonathan, his wife, Gina, and their three children, Rocco, Lola, and Angelo, to the Packers and the Green Bay community.
Gannon comes to Green Bay with 18 years of experience coaching in the NFL, with his most notable work being his time as a head coach for the Arizona Cardinals (2023-25) and the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles (2021-22). He also spent time on the staff of the Indianapolis Colts (2018-20), the Minnesota Vikings (2014-2017), the Tennessee Titans (2012-2013), the St. Louis Rams (2009-11), and the Atlanta Falcons (2007).

While with the Cardinals, Gannon held a coaching record of just 15-36 in three regular seasons, but over the last 11 games of the 20024 regular season, the Cardinals were 4th in the NFL in points allowed per game, 6th in total defense while allowing the fewest total touchdowns and the fewest passing touchdowns in the league.
While serving as the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive coordinator, Gannon had the Eagles as a top-10 defense ranking 2nd in the league in total defense in 2022 and 10th in 2021. In 2022, the Eagles featured the league’s top-ranked passing defense and led the league with a team-record 70 sacks.
Gannon takes over the Packers’ defensive coordinator position, which was left vacant after Jeff Hafley left Green Bay to become the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
