(WFRV) — The Wisconsin Beef Council is launching the third annual Wisconsin’s Best Burger Contest, aiming to find and celebrate the most mouthwatering 100% beef burgers served by restaurants, bars and grills across the state.
The annual contest gives Wisconsinites a chance to recognize establishments that go above and beyond to craft standout burgers. The first two years sparked a statewide burger frenzy, with Elite Eight finalists seeing increased sales and widespread attention.

Beginning Friday, Feb. 13, through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, March 15, the public can nominate their favorite beef burgers from any Wisconsin restaurant by visiting the Wisconsin Beef Council’s website.
In late March, the council will announce the Elite Eight restaurants that receive the most nominations. A secret panel of judges will then visit each finalist to taste and evaluate the burgers.

Judging will be based on taste, appearance, proper doneness and overall enjoyment, with bonus points awarded for dining environment, atmosphere and overall experience. The grand prize winner will be announced April 24, serving as an early kickoff to May Beef Month.
To be eligible, burgers must meet the following guidelines:
- The patty must be made from 100% beef, though spices, vegetables or other ingredients may be added.
- Burgers must feature a formed ground beef patty or patties served on a bun or other bread product, including biscuits, focaccia or tortillas.
- All components — including condiments, sauces, cheeses and toppings — must be placed between the bread or served open-faced.
- The burger must be a regular menu item, and the restaurant must be open year-round.
Officials note that a restaurant may only win the Wisconsin’s Best Burger Contest once. Restaurants placing in the Elite Eight — and especially the overall winner — can expect a boost in business and are encouraged to prepare accordingly.
