Police say some thieves are tampering with steering columns or broken-out sun roofs to gain access to vehicles, while others are stealing vehicles by utilizing professional technology intended for vehicle locksmiths.
In hopes of preventing further thefts, officers say drivers can install a kill switch in their vehicle or, if possible, park inside a garage. They add that steering wheel locks could also be a useful tool in preventing vehicle theft.
Anyone who may see a vehicle theft in progress is asked to call 911 immediately and not to approach the suspects.
