Podoll, who has served as the Green Lake County Sheriff for 20 years now, with a total of 44 years in law enforcement, announced that he will not be seeking re-election, and come January 4, 2027, he is officially planning to retire at the end of his current term.
The support of the Green Lake Community has been incredible over the course of my career. I expect that community to continue for the next generation of law enforcement, and I expect law enforcement to continue to strengthen that community bond.

During his time Podoll took the lead in a number of cases, most notably the recent search in finding Ryan Borgwardt, the Wisconsin man accused of faking his own death in Green Lake and fleeing the country.
Podoll says that while he has accomplished many goals during his time as sheriff, it is time for him to start a new chapter in his life. Despite his eventual departure from the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office, he adds that he will continue to serve as sheriff both faithfully and diligently until his last day.
