Arriving crews saw smoke and immediately began rescue efforts. McIntire was taken out of the home and treated on the scene before being taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Officials say the McIntire holds a special place in the heart of the Appleton Police Department, as after serving in the United States Marine Corps, he served for 36 years as an Appleton police officer before retiring in 1999 as a Lieutenant and continuing to serve the Appleton community as a school crossing guard.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ronnie McIntire during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with them as we continue to investigate the cause of this tragic incident.
