GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – During this year’s Give BIG Green Bay, local pediatrician and advocate Holly Maes is taking on a 24-hour challenge along the Fox River Trail to raise money for early childhood education.
From noon Feb. 25 through noon Feb. 26, Maes will continuously wheel her wheelchair along the trail in support of Encompass Early Education and Care, a nonprofit focused on making high-quality child care accessible and affordable for families across northeast Wisconsin.

Community members are invited to participate by pledging between $1 and $100 per hour wheeled or by making a donation of any amount during the 24-hour event.
“This is a wheely big deal,” Maes said. “Early childhood is when young brains are developing at an incredible rate — making over one million neural connections every second. If my wheeling can help make care possible for even one more family, it’s worth every push.”

Funds raised through Maes’ peer-to-peer campaign will support Encompass’ mission to provide early education, child care and family support services, including tuition assistance. More than half of the children served by the organization receive financial aid, helping parents remain in the workforce while their children learn and grow.
Donations can be made through the Give BIG Green Bay website by selecting Maes’ “Wheeling for Encompass” fundraiser under Encompass during the 24-hour event.
