EDEN, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Fond du Lac say a malfunctioning wood burner is the likely cause of a fire that caused significant damage to a shed and multiple pieces of machinery.
According to a release from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, along with fire crews from the Eden Fire Department, responded on Tuesday to the W2900 block of Highway 45 after a passerby reported smoke billowing from a machine shed.
Upon arrival, officials confirmed that a 20-foot by 60-foot shed had heavy smoke coming out of it. Citing the severity of the fire and the potential threat to nearby structures, additional help was called to the scene.

Assisting fire crews from Campbellsport Fire and Ambulance, Mt. Calvary Fire, Town of Fond du Lac Fire, and RIT4 helped to successfully extinguish the fire. No one was hurt in the incident and a nearby barn and silo were not touched, but the fire is said to have significantly damaged the initial shed and multiple pieces of machinery inside.
Officials say the fire is likely to have been started by a malfunctioning wood burner, and the incident is not considered to be suspicious.
No other information is available at this time, and an investigation into the fire is ongoing by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
