Officials recommend having propane systems installed and serviced by qualified professionals, regularly inspecting equipment for damage, storing propane cylinders upright and outdoors, keeping ignition sources and flammable materials away, and using propane appliances only as intended.
If a propane leak is suspected, authorities advise leaving the building immediately, avoiding the use of lights, switches, phones or other equipment inside, and calling emergency services from a safe location.
