FOX CROSSING, Wis. (WFRV) – A police officer shot a dog Saturday morning at Fritsch Park after authorities say the animal was actively attacking another dog and its owner.
According to the Fox Crossing Police Department, officers were dispatched around 11:30 a.m. for a report of a dog at large.

Preliminary information indicated the loose dog had a prior history of aggressive behavior, including a documented incident in 2025 in which it allegedly attacked another dog and its owner. The dog’s owner was previously cited for having a vicious animal, authorities said.
When officers arrived and began attempting to locate and contain the dog, organized efforts were initially made using a catch pole and leash. However, an officer observed the dog actively attacking another dog while that dog’s owner was trying to separate the animals.
Police said the officer discharged their firearm in an effort to immediately stop the attack and protect those involved, striking the attacking dog. The dog’s owner arrived minutes later and transported the animal to a medical facility for treatment. Authorities have not released an update on the dog’s condition.
“The officer’s actions were taken to prevent serious injury to the person and continued attacks to the other dog involved,” the department said in a statement.

Officials are reminding residents to properly secure pets and ensure they are under control at all times, especially in public spaces, to help prevent similar incidents.
