(WFRV) – Officials in Shawano County say highway crews helped save the lives of two critical patients on Monday morning during the historic blizzard.
According to a release from the Shawano Ambulance Service, persisting whiteout conditions, blowing snow, and drifted over highways had put a hold on all transfers out of the ThedaCare-Shawano Medical Center since late Sunday evening.
Brown County Sheriff’s Office has 304 calls to service during historic blizzard
On Monday morning, officials say two critical patients could no longer wait and were facing life-threatening injuries requiring them to be moved to facilities that could provide a higher level of care.
Facing impassable highways, crews from both Shawano and Outagamie Counties immediately went all in to help out.
Two ambulances were said to be led from the ThedaCare-Shawano Medical Center to the Shawano and Outagamie County line in Bonduel by a Shawano County plow truck, where a plow truck from Outagamie County was waiting at the line to clear the way for the ambulances all the way to the Fox Cities.
It is at times like these when we see these “behind the scenes” agencies really come together and truly make life or death efforts for people they’ve never met and probably will never know. If you know or see a plow driver, thank them for their service!
