GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Children in Green Bay made the most of an unexpected stretch of snow days, trading classrooms for sledding hills.

On a hill off Fire Lane, the mood was anything but gloomy on Tuesday. Kids bundled up and raced down the slopes, turning the extra time off into friendly competition and outdoor fun.
“Everett has the fastest sleds – the purple, and black, and green ones,” Providence Academy student Michael Branam said.
While some admitted they were ready to return to school, many were firm on team snow day.
When asked if the kids were ready to go back to school, or if they would rather sled every day, two best friends answered with no hesitation.
“Sled every day! Sled every day,” second graders Elenore Wollin and Annika Branam said.
Parents said the time outside was a nice break from being cooped up indoors.
“We all were feeling a little stir crazy inside, so we thought we’d get out and sled,” Kayla Branam said.
Even WFRV Local 5’s photographer Emma Reed joined in on the fun. As a Hawaii native, she hit the slopes for the first time ever.
“I’m nervous… how do I steer?” Reed said.
For the kids, the day wasn’t just about fun. It was about competition.
One young racer, Michael, was widely considered the favorite thanks to his speedy sleds. But after a dramatic wipeout during a race, it became clear his real advantage might be his ability to bounce back quickly and race down the hill with his feet.

Despite the spills and chilly temperatures, spirits remained high.
Families embraced the fleeting winter break, proving that sometimes a few unexpected days off can create the best memories.
