(WFRV) – With the spring season creeping its way back into the Badger State, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is offering tips to the public on avoiding ticks.
According to a release from the DNR, tick exposure can happen all year long, but it is during the warmer months, typically April through September, that ticks tend to be the most active.
DNR officials say there are plenty of steps one can take to help to “fight the bite.” These tips mainly include using personal protection like repellents and wearing long clothing when going outdoors.

It is suggested to stick to designated trails and avoid brushing up against plants, especially in wooded or bushy areas that have tall grass and leaf liter.
Officials also suggest doing a full-body tick check any time after being outdoors. They add that it is important to remove any ticks found as soon as possible.
