GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Simply looking at the photo of Stella below, you may never think there were any major issues, but as the Wisconsin Humane Society said, her story is nothing short of a miracle.

Easter fun for all at NEW Zoo’s annual Eggstravaganzoo event
On Wednesday morning, the Wisconsin Humane Society’s Green Bay Campus shared the husky’s story of survival after several near-death experiences in just a couple of days.
“An absolutely masterful escape artist, Stella ran away from home, was shot under unknown circumstances and leapt off an overpass, landing on the road 30 feet below — all within a couple of days,” the post said.
Multiple witnesses quickly reported Stella’s fall from the overpass to the police. Authorities responded and rushed her to an emergency vet for stabilization in Howard.

The Wisconsin Humane Society of Green Bay is the contracted stray holding facility for Howard, and upon notification, staff remained in contact throughout Stella’s scary hospital trip.
According to the post, Stella had no broken limbs, but the gunshot left her with metal fragments, internal bleeding and severe lung and chest damage, likely from the fall.
Since being rescued, Stella has been quite busy with the following procedures:
- CT Scan
- X-Rays
- Chest tube
- Thoracocentesis
- Major open-chest surgery
Despite all of it, veterinarians and Humane Society staffers said Stella was beyond sweet, happy and affectionate with constant kisses, and she’s recovering at the Green Bay Campus after a successful surgery that removed damaged lobes and bullet fragments.

Stella’s family had been trying to find a new family for her, but they had decided it would be best at this time to let the Wisconsin Humane Society handle things, while expressing extreme love and gratitude for all of Stella’s love.
