SHAWANO COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials in Shawano County are urging people to be aware, as they have learned the Balsam Row Road Dam is at risk of failing.
According to a release, water has crested over the top of the dam, which isn’t fully functioning, leaving limited options to reduce the threat. Officials said around 9:36 p.m. that the water is still rising but at a significantly slower rate than a couple of hours prior.
Authorities across northeast Wisconsin share one common message amid ongoing flooding
Sand berms standing about 3-4 feet are on both sides as a means oof protecting the embankments to direct overflow across the concrete.
People who live along the river to the south of the dam should have a plan in case conditions worsen to the point of a necessary evacuation.
No official order is active, but alerts will be available by texting 54166 to 888777.
