GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Wisconsin Public Service has kicked off a “newsworthy” naming contest for its about-to-hatch peregrine falcon chicks.
Several name options that can be voted on for the falcon chicks are based on personalities from multiple news outlets in the area, including the following, based on those here at Local 5:
- Soarin’ Lamers in honor of Jordan Lamers
- Tom Zala-sky in honor of Tom Zalaski
- Swoop Sampe in honor of Luke Sampe
- Bird Griffin in honor of Burke Griffin
- Jade Eggshell in honor of Jade Henschel
- Stacy Wingebretson in honor of Stacy Engebretson
Voting in this contest is free, unlimited, and it runs from now through May 5. Officials with WPS say this contest is all about continuing their long-running effort to support Wisconsin’s population of peregrine falcons.

The names with the most votes will be given to the falcon chicks after they hatch at the Weston Power Plant. WPS officials warn that the winners will have to be good sports and deal with the publicity that comes with having one of the fastest animals in the world named after them.
