(WFRV) – Last year, Doug Gottlieb and company filed a waiver request to the NCAA to allow the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) men’s basketball team to play in the $1 million, winner-take-all tournament, known as The Basketball Tournament.
After getting denied, Green Bay has once again put in that same request, this time doing so with plenty of time until the tournament’s start date on July 18.

Horizon League commissioner Julie Roe Lach is reportedly backing the Phoenix; however, Green Bay Athletic Director Josh Moon says he “doesn’t feel that great” that the NCAA will allow the Phoenix to participate in the tournament.
Moon cites the NCAA bylaws that would have to be upended for the Phoenix to play in a sanctioned tournament with other professional organizations, not sponsored or run by the NCAA.
Hear from the Athletic Director in the video above as to why he believes his men’s basketball program should get the opportunity to prove themselves on a national stage, such as TBT.
