SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) – A fire department in Wisconsin was alerted on Monday afternoon to a substance that resembled mercury, prompting hazmat crews to respond to the scene.
The South Milwaukee Fire Department reported that it was alerted around 4:08 p.m. to a possible substance resembling mercury at 1005 Columbia Avenue.

Crews on the scene arrived, determining the liquid could be mercury, upgrading the call to a hazmat situation. Hazmat crews arrived on the scene and confirmed it to be mercury.
The mercury was contained by the hazmat crews, removing concerns about it; however, the facility where it was found is currently closed.
