KIEL, Wis. (WFRV) – Kiel Fire and Rescue responded on May 26 to multiple service calls, including one report of smoke in a home with a person possibly still inside.
Around 5:57 p.m. on May 26, crews were alerted to the smoke report and arrived on scene within six minutes of dispatch, and found smoke from the house. Firefighters located the source in the kitchen, quickly securing the area and ventilating the home.

A smoke detector alerted occupants, who evacuated the home before crews arrived, and one person was evaluated on scene by paramedics. They were released without further treatment necessary.
The cause of the incident was deemed to be a kitchen appliance placed on a hot stovetop. Kiel Fire and Rescue personnel also reported seven additional calls over the following several hours.
The Kiel Fire Department issued a reminder to residents about the importance of installing working smoke detectors and checking them consistently to ensure they work properly.
