GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WFRV) – A person was pronounced dead at a hospital after crashing into a utility pole and mailbox in Grand Chute on Thursday afternoon.
The Grand Chute Police Department reported that crews responded to the intersection of West Prospect Avenue and South Van Dyke Road around 4:24 p.m. for a reported two-vehicle crash.
The initial investigation indicates that a sports utility vehicle was heading westbound and went off-road, hitting a telephone pole and mailbox. The crash led the vehicle back into the roadway, hitting a vehicle headed east while it was stopped in traffic.
The driver of the sports utility vehicle was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

West Prospect Avenue between South Van Dyke Road and South Casaloma Drive will be closed until further notice as the utility pole goes through repairs. The closure is expected to last several hours.
