MINERAL POINT, Wis. (WFRV) – A man from southwest Wisconsin was pronounced dead on Friday after he got pinned under an ATV he was driving while spraying weeds.
Deputies with the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident on the evening of May 30, saying they were called around 3:05 p.m. earlier that day for reports of an ATV rollover crash in the Town of Waldwick.
According to the release, a 77-year-old man from Mineral Point was driving an ATV on a ‘steep hillside’ while reportedly spraying weeds on County Line Road when the ATV overturned and landed on top of him.
Several first responders were called to the scene; however, despite life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Wisconsin DNR is leading the crash investigation, and Sheriff Michael Peterson with the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office provided the following statement:
We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who knew him. We commend the swift and professional response of all agencies involved. This is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly accidents can happen.
