(WFRV) – Nearly three months after a bull elk was allegedly illegally killed in Wisconsin, the DNR is still looking for tips.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), it is still asking for the public’s help in getting information regarding the illegal killing of a bull elk. The incident reportedly happened in Jackson County.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is reportedly offering a $5,000 reward, and the Wisconsin Buck and Bear Club is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to the successful prosecution of the incident.
On the morning of March 18, DNR staff got a report of a dead elk. It was found on private property.
Officials say it was determined that the bull elk died from injuries sustained from a gunshot wound. The bull was wearing a GPS radio collar that provided investigators with information tied to the illegal shooting, the DNR said.
The animal was reportedly one of the last remaining elk originally brought from Kentucky in 2016. It was described as one of the primary breeding bulls for the Central Elk Herd.
