(WFRV) – With the Fourth of July weekend shaping up to be one of the busiest travel periods of the year, Wisconsinites hitting the road will find some relief at the pump compared to last year.
According to AAA, the average price for regular gasoline in Wisconsin is currently $2.95, which is about 40 cents lower than it was during the 2024 holiday weekend. Diesel prices are also down slightly, with the current average at $3.49 per gallon compared to $3.60 last year.

Drivers in northeast Wisconsin are seeing some of the lowest prices in the state:
- Appleton: $2.86 (2024: $3.29)
- Fond du Lac: $2.89 (2024: $3.31)
- Green Bay: $2.89 (2024: $3.32)
- Oshkosh: $2.89 (2024: $3.32)
- Sheboygan: $2.91 (2024: $3.29)
Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.22, two cents higher than last week, but still 27 cents cheaper than the same time last year.

The highest gas prices in the country are in California ($4.62), followed by Hawaii ($4.47) and Washington ($4.45). On the flip side, Mississippi leads the nation with the cheapest fuel at $2.73, with several southern states following closely behind.
With lower prices at the pump and clear roads ahead, Wisconsinites are expected to travel in large numbers. Authorities are reminding drivers to fuel up early and drive safely over the holiday weekend.
