MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – Police in Wisconsin’s capital say the department was unaware until after their reported enforcement actions that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were in town on Thursday.
The Madison Police Department said in a noon release on Friday that ICE agents were in Madison; however, they were unaware of their presence until after they had left.
“We were made aware of their possible presence by trusted community partners, and we were later able to confirm it by contacting federal partners,” the release said.
The following statement was included:
“The Madison Police Department works closely with our community partners to ensure that we are doing everything that we can to aid in effective communication and ease concerns for the entire community.“
Details on when and where the reported enforcement actions occurred were not specified by the police; however, a Dane County nonprofit reported possible information on the enforcement action.
The reported presence came a week after ICE agents performed a larger raid in Manitowoc County, with 24 arrests made linked to a drug and human trafficking ring.
