GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – As more hunters head into the woods, Emplify Health by Bellin is reminding everyone to think about medical emergencies, not just equipment and firearm safety.
From a press release, an Emplify Health trauma injury prevention coordinator, Megan Anderson, says hunters often overlook their physical readiness.
“A couple ones that we might not always think about are heart attacks in the woods,
especially if we’re not physically active the rest of the year and then we’re walking long
distances and potentially dragging deer,” says Anderson. “That can be really strenuous on the body, which can lead to a heart attack in the woods.”

Officials say hunters should pack a small first-aid kit, plan how they’d respond to emergencies, and make sure someone knows where they’ll be.
“Make sure you know how to get a hold of someone in an emergency. Think about where
you are and how you’ll get help if there is an emergency,” Anderson added. “Make sure you tell
someone where you’ll be and when you’ll be back. Those are important things to keep in
mind.”
Emplify Health suggests talking with a primary care provider before heading out if you have health concerns.
