KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WFRV) – The Kaukauna Common Council voted Tuesday night to update the city’s municipal code to add an additional layer of review for any future proposals to build a data center within city limits.
City leaders say the move is intended to be proactive, even though there are currently no plans or available land for such a development.

“There’s no land currently in the city of Kaukauna for them to even go, so it’s really almost a moot point,” Mayor Tony Penterman said. “But we want to get ahead of this in case there was some land that came available.”

Penterman said no company has contacted the city about building a data center at this time.
The ordinance change ensures that if a proposal is brought forward in the future, it would require additional scrutiny before moving ahead.
