MILAN, Italy (WFRV) — Two Wisconsin residents found themselves unexpectedly immersed in Olympic excitement while traveling abroad on a ski trip.
Craig and Jody Lyon of La Crosse planned a stop in Milan as part of their trip, but only later realized their visit coincided with the start of the Olympic Games.

“It was a pleasant surprise,” Jody Lyon said. “We thought there might be some Olympic-related activity going on, which felt pretty cool. I was a little disappointed we didn’t plan it that way, but by the time we realized it, it was probably too late to change plans or find accommodations.”
While in Milan, the Lyons have been exploring the city and browsing stores filled with Olympic merchandise from countries around the world. They have also spotted several athletes around the city.
“The women’s hockey team is here, and a couple of players are from just a few hours away from where we live, so that’s been really cool,” Lyon said. “We’ve also seen a few ice skaters.”

Although visiting Milan was already a highlight of the trip, the Olympic atmosphere added an extra layer of excitement.
“It’s great to see the city getting hyped up for the Olympics,” Lyon said. “We love the Olympics, and the decorations and energy around the city right now have made the experience even more special.”
