According to the Gurnee Police Department, officers responded to the 6100 block of Grand Avenue just after 10 a.m. on February 2 for a report that a car struck a pedestrian in a parking lot.
Initial details indicate a vehicle heading through a parking lot aisle struck a 79-year-old man standing near his vehicle. The suspect driver exited the aisle and hit another person, a 60-year-old woman.
The man was seriously injured and taken to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville, while the woman sustained an ankle injury and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect vehicle fled before officers arrived.
Officers began searching the area after identifying the type of vehicle involved, and another Gurnee officer witnessed a disturbance in the 6400 block with a man and woman in a fight. The woman reportedly stood up and aggressively approached the officer, who tased her.
The woman was identified as the same driver from the earlier crash, a 25-year-old Waukesha woman. According to the release, the woman entered a nearby parking lot after fleeing the crash scene and approached a man in his vehicle.
