OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – First responders were called to the Fox River in Oshkosh on Tuesday night after a man who was reportedly trying to walk across the river fell in and called 911 for assistance.
A release provided by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office states that authorities were called by a man who had fallen into and gotten out of the Fox River near Ohio Street around 8:10 p.m. on February 3.
The caller, a 23-year-old man, was reportedly trying to walk across the river when he fell in. After getting out of the water and onto shore safely, he called 911.

The man was assessed for injuries at the scene and released.
“We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that no ice is 100% safe,” deputies said in the release. “This is particularly true in areas with a current, such as the Fox River.”
