MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) – The Manitowoc Police and Fire Commission announced on Wednesday afternoon that it has voted on the successor to retiring Fire Chief Todd Blaser.

According to a release, Assistant Chief Benjamin Kraynek will assume the role following Chief Blaser’s retirement on May 29, 2026.
“Chief Blaser, who has served the City of Manitowoc with distinction for the past 17 years, will conclude a long and respected career marked by dedication to public safety, leadership development and community service,” the release said.
Assistant Chief Kraynek has served the Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department for a quarter-century with a vast array of educational experience, according to the release:
- Associate’s Degree—Fire Protection Technician
- Bachelor’s of Science—Fire Administration
- Master of Arts—Public Administration
Police and Fire Commission president Michael Wellner called Kraynek a respected leader who has earned the Commission’s confidence.

“His experience, education and commitment to the community make him exceptionally well‑prepared to lead the Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department into the future,” Wellner said via the release.
Assistant Chief Kraynek will officially drop the Assistant title and become the full-time Fire Chief on May 30.
