GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve is gearing up to host its annual Maple Syrupin’ Public Day in the coming weeks, offering visitors a chance to experience the maple sugaring process firsthand.
Local 5’s Stacy Engebretson recently spoke with Ben Schuurmans about what attendees can expect at the event.
Barkhausen staff will lead a three-quarter-mile guided hike through educational stations in the sugar bush, where participants will learn how sap is collected and transformed into maple syrup. The tour includes a close-up look inside the Sugar Shack, where the sap is boiled down.
The experience wraps up with a sweet treat for guests, giving them a taste of the finished product.
