From Storm Team 5…
The calm before the storm will be the daylight hours of Saturday. This is your time to run your errands, get to the grocery store – pickup your favorite winter storm snacks and beverages and get ready to ride the storm out Sunday into Monday.
WINTER STORM WARNINGS will go into effect 7PM Saturday and last into Monday afternoon. A major winter storm will spread heavy accumulating snow, sleet, and strong easterly winds throughout much of NE WI.
Plan on an initial push of snow Saturday evening and night 3-6″ of snow expect by daybreak Sunday.
Then, as the low pressure center tracks just to our south, the atmosphere will actually warm up just enough to disturb the temperature profile in the lowest levels to create a sleet/ice pellet/rain situation. This change over to mixed precipitation would be mainly for areas south and to the east of the Fox River Valley. This storm should stay all snow in the Northwoods.
We are expecting another 3-6″ of snow/sleet/ice pellets through the day on Sunday.
Another change over to all snow is expected Sunday night and that’s when the lion share of the accumulation is expected lasting into Monday morning.
An additional 6-12″ of snow is forecast Sunday evening/night wrapping up midday Monday.
Plan on winds gusting out of the east 35-40 mph as well before the winds turn more out of the NE later on Sunday night.
This will be a significant-high impact winter storm – the time to prepare is now.
