APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Spectrum has announced the permanent closure of its telecommunications center in Appleton, causing over 300 employees to be laid off.
According to a letter sent to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Charter Communications stated that its facility at 3520 Destination Drive in Appleton will be permanently closing.
Due to the closure, 313 employees will be laid off beginning May 21. Officials told Local 5 that they will be transitioning the work at the Appleton technical repair call center to its other U.S.-based call centers, making the process “more efficient.”

Officials also told Local 5 that employees have the option to relocate and “transition in their current role to one of our select technical repair locations or apply to another role with the company for which they are qualified, including our Fond du Lac call center.”
Spectrum continues to have a strong presence in Wisconsin, including our growing field operations team which includes technicians who service customers at their home and business and maintain our fiber network. The company’s investment in Wisconsin will continue through a multi-year network expansion and upgrade initiatives focused on increasing speeds, reliability and expanding network capacity across the state.
