KIEL, Wis. (WFRV) – Several vegetation fires broke out Monday afternoon in and around Kiel, keeping emergency crews busy as dry and windy conditions fueled rapid fire spread.
Officials say low humidity and gusty winds have made the fires difficult to control. Under these conditions, even small ignition sources — such as campfires, burn barrels, brush piles, discarded cigarettes or sparks from equipment — can quickly escalate into large grass or brush fires.
The Kiel Fire Department is strongly urging residents to avoid any outdoor burning until conditions improve to help prevent additional fires and reduce strain on emergency responders.
