DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials in De Pere say people should avoid the area of Scheuring Road near Lost Dauphin Road as well as Grant Street near 6th Street after a train-related incident.

According to a release, the incident was reported just before 3 p.m., when a train struck a pedestrian. De Pere Police Captain Nathan Mrstik said that preliminary reports revealed a woman in her 80s was struck by the train.
“She fell on the tracks as she was walking, and tried to call family members to help her get off the tracks,” Captain Mrstik said. “The train was coming down the tracks and saw her a ways out, and started to brake, but still struck her.”
The woman, who remains unidentified, was hospitalized with unknown injuries, but Captain Mrstik said she was believed to be stable at the time.
Officials say the train crossings at Scheuring and Lost Dauphin, along with Grant and 6th will be closed off for a few hours for investigation.

The train will be stationary, and officials say no ongoing danger is present.
