The latest northeast Wisconsin weather forecast from Storm Team 5…
Thursday’s weather will be a mess with all possible precipitation types possible in the next 12 to 18 hours on our side of the state. In the morning, travel is expected to be the most difficult as the day begins with rain, areas of freezing rain, sleet, and a little snow over the north.

Road conditions will be either wet or slippery early this morning. The good news for some communities is the fact that the ground and pavement are above freezing, but dropping air temperatures could still bring icy spots on the road or your windshield. Bridges and overpasses will freeze first, as well as elevated surfaces like buildings, trees, and powerlines. If we can get enough ice on tree branches, the added weight and the gusty east winds could cause tree and powerline damage, leading to outages. We’ll keep you updated on that.
From mid-morning into the afternoon, we transition mostly to rain or thundershowers, while some stretches of the northwoods will continue to see sleet or freezing rain with cooler air temperatures.
Finally, this spring storm system ends with a chance for strong thunderstorms. This will be mainly for the southern and eastern sections of the map, such as the Fox Valley and lakeshore. 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. is the window to get a stronger storm that could produce damaging winds or some isolated hail. Tornado spin-ups cannot be ruled out completely, but the better chance for a tornado is in southern Wisconsin.
