EXETER, Wis. (WFRV) – While some pets were rescued, others did not make it following a house fire late Wednesday night in Wisconsin, authorities say.
According to a release from the Belleville Volunteer Fire Department, crews responded at 11:57 p.m. after residents of a home in the Town of Exeter reported a fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters could see an active fire through the basement window of the home. Officials say it took just one minute after arriving for crews to make entry into the home, locate the fire, and extinguish it.

The home was occupied by three adults, two children, and an unspecified number of pets, some of which firefighters were able to rescue while others perished in the fire due to the conditions inside the home before crews arrived.
Damage from the fire was contained to the lower levels of the house, with smoke damage being seen all throughout the home. Initial damage reports are estimated to be worth $15-20,000.
