(WFRV) – Tony Evers has signed legislation allocating millions of dollars to support athletic facility maintenance, debt service and name, image and likeness-related provisions at several University of Wisconsin campuses.
Under the bill, UW-Madison will receive $14.6 million in general purpose revenue annually. UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay will each receive $200,000 annually in general purpose revenue. The three universities are Wisconsin’s only public NCAA Division I schools.

The legislation also addresses name, image and likeness (NIL) rights for student-athletes. It prohibits the UW Board of Regents or individual system institutions from restricting athletes’ ability to use their NIL outside official team activities or from obtaining professional representation.

However, the bill also bars the use of state general purpose revenue to directly create or support NIL compensation agreements.
Supporters say the funding will help maintain competitive athletic facilities while ensuring student-athletes retain expanded rights in the evolving NIL landscape.
