According to a release, the new benches and bins are permanent additions throughout the Shipyard District as a way to help contribute to the walkability and bikeability of Green Bay’s downtown area.
Officials say the red painted benches and the navy blue painted bins are a representation of the industrial and waterfront history of Green Bay’s Shipyard District. The designs and locations of the newly unveiled benches and bins were said to be selected during public workshops that were held in 2025 by district stakeholders, including Shipyard District business owners and neighborhood leaders who represented the Shipyard Neighborhood Association and the Tank Neighborhood Association.

The new street furniture project was funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) through the City of Green Bay, and they were dedicated to Jim Piontek, who is remembered as a “founding member of SDI, a former Shipyard District business owner, and a lifelong friend and supporter of district bars and restaurants.”
To see the new benches and bins, they are located on the 700, 800, 1200, and 1300 blocks of South Broadway.
