FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Fond du Lac say a woman and a child needed to be taken to a hospital following a fire early Friday morning.
According to a release from the City of Fond du Lac Fire Rescue, crews responded at 12:56 a.m. to the 700 block of East Scott Street for a fire at a two-story, multi-unit residential building.
Arriving officials say they found moderate smoke conditions inside one of the townhomes and began an interior search, confirming the home to be clear of any occupants. Heavy smoke was then encountered on the second floor, with crews finding and extinguishing a fire in a second-floor bedroom within 15 minutes of arriving on the scene.

The fire, which appears to have started in a second-floor bedroom, left the townhome uninhabitable due to fire damage to the second floor and water and heavy smoke damage throughout.
Residents of nearby attached townhomes were evacuated during the incident. After crews ventilated and verified safe air quality, the nearby residents were allowed to re-enter their homes. One woman and a child were evaluated at the scene by Fond du Lac Fire Rescue paramedics and taken to the hospital.
No other information is available and an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
