BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – In another chapter of the ongoing coal piles saga for Brown County, an agreement has been reached to lease a spot for relocation.
Brown County moves forward with coal pile relocation via unanimous vote
According to a release, a 60-year deal was reached with C. Reiss Terminals, LLC, and Brown County to lease the northern portion of the former Puliam Power Plant site, where the coal piles are expected to be relocated.
“I’m extremely happy that both sides were able to seize this historic opportunity by agreeing to a long-term lease agreement that will have the utmost positive economic impact on Brown County and Northeast Wisconsin,” Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach said via a release.
C. Reiss CEO Keith Haselhoff expressed pleasure in agreeing to the deal, as it allows for expanded capacity at the Port of Green Bay and a chance to redevelop the land where the coal piles currently sit.
“This is an important step forward in the effort to expand capacity at the Port of Green Bay, facilitate the relocation of coal piles from the downtown Mason Street riverfront, and advance the community’s long-standing goal of redeveloping that site,” Haselhoff said via the release.
