Fox Valley brewery legend celebrated in Appleton

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – A local brewery celebrated the life and legacy of a giant in the Fox Valley brewing scene.

George Walter came to the United States from Germany back in 1873. He founded several breweries and also created the iconic ‘Adler Brau’ brand that people still enjoy today.

Every year, Stone Arch Brewpub hosts a party to celebrate Walter. They invite his descendants to show up to celebrate and every year several of them come down to Appleton.

“There were several Walter brewing companies throughout the United States,” said George Walter’s great-granddaughter Kris Robertson. “This one in Appleton is one of several. I grew up in Eau Claire which had the Walters brewery.”

Robertson said it means the world to her that people still remember and celebrate her great-grandfather. She said she loves these reunions because she’s always able to connect with people who are also related to Walter and hear their stories.
