Armed suspect dead following officer involved shooting in Wisconsin

RACINE, Wis. (WFRV) – An armed suspect in Wisconsin wanted for a violent domestic abuse assault is now dead following an officer-involved shooting Sunday night, authorities said.

According to a release from the Racine Police Department, at 11:12 p.m., officers found and attempted to arrest a man on the 900 block of 17th Street who was wanted in connection with a violent domestic abuse assault from earlier in the day.

As officers began to approach the suspect, he attempted to flee in a vehicle before crashing just about a half a block away from the scene.

The suspect, who has ties to Racine, exited the vehicle with a handgun in his hand. As the suspect allegedly began to raise the gun, an officer shot him.

Attempts to render aid and provide life-saving measures were unsuccessful as the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officers involved in the incident, per department policy, have been placed on administrative leave while the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) investigates.
