METOMEN, Wis. (WFRV) – Several residents of a Fond du Lac County home had to jump to safety after being woken up by a fire and reported explosion early Friday morning at a home that is now considered a total loss.
A release from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office states that dispatch got a 911 call just before 3 a.m. on Friday, February 21 from a resident at a home in the W13000 block of CTH KK in the Town of Metomen.

The resident told authorities that the house was on fire and that there were several other people asleep inside. Shortly after it was reported that the residents were jumping from the second story to escape the fire.
It was noted in the release that a deputy arrived at the scene and “observed an explosion come from the home.”
Due to the size and severity of the fire, several local fire departments responded to help put out the fire.
Deputies say the property owner was not home at the time of the fire and the roughly 2,500-square-foot home is considered a total loss. It was also noted that a resident sustained serious injuries while jumping from the second story, and roughly five dogs and six cats died as a result of the incident.

The person was taken to a local hospital and then flown to another hospital for more advanced treatment. Two others suffered smoke inhalation injuries and were hospitalized.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
