ALLOUEZ, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) say the repair work on the WIS 172 bridge in Brown County has been delayed due to frigid temperatures.
According to a release from WisDOT, the repairs to the WIS 172 bridge over WIS 57/Riverside Drive were originally supposed to begin on Monday but the recent cold weather has delayed the work until Wednesday.
With the repair work delayed, Southbound WIS 57/Riverside Drive between the WIS 172 ramps in Allouez will now be closed from 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, through 5:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20, and again from 6:00 a.m. Monday, February 24, through 5:00 p.m. Thursday, February 27.
During this time bridge maintenance crews will be conducting heat-straightening operations on steel girder that was bent after an oversized truck crashed into the bridge.
WisDOT officials say while WIS 57 South/Riverside Drive is closed drivers can use the following detour:
- Westbound 172 to Pilgrim Road to Ashland Avenue to Vanderperren Way to eastbound 172 and back on the original route.
This detour is mostly for long-haul trucking operations as local traffic may, and can often, find a faster route.
