GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – It was literally Titletown’s Turn on Thursday night, as the Green Bay Packers made their first selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, announced right outside historic Lambeau Field.
With the No. 23 overall pick, the Packers selected Matthew Golden, a WR out of Texas, to become the newest member of the Green and Gold(en).
The Packers fanbase roared with excitement as the Packers finally selected a wideout. Golden was called out by Team President Mark Murphy, just a few hundred yards from where he will start his NFL career.
The Packers haven’t drafted a first-round wide receiver since 2002, and for years, fans begged for it. Then, in front of their stadium, the Packers did it, and the Green and Gold faithful answered with excitement.
Golden, a 5-foot-11, 191-pound wideout, hauled in 58 receptions in 2024, totaling 987 yards and nine scores. He finished third in the Southeastern Conference in yards and his nine touchdowns were tied for the most in the conference.
The Packers, who may not see Christian Watson at all or for a while this upcoming season after a knee injury in Week 18, will certainly enjoy having one of the fastest players in the class, as he ran a 4.29-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
