“I’m Ukrainian. I am second generation, so I was born here, but both my grandparents were from Ukraine,” Trapani said. “It’s my first language, and I grew up really proud of my heritage and my family.”

Door County Candle has raised more than $1.6 million to support those impacted by the war, donating 100% of the proceeds from its Ukraine candle.

“We have been able to donate over a million dollars, and then last year we donated an additional $18,000—more than $18,000,” Trapani said. “It’s been really incredible.”

Trapani and her team have worked tirelessly to provide substantial monetary and in-kind donations.

“We’ve also sent just over 10,000 tin candles to Ukraine two years ago,” she said. “Those candles were for soldiers fighting, to provide light in their bunks and help with the smell. They’re also used as memorial candles for fallen soldiers and family members.”

Trapani told Local 5 that the Ukraine candle marked the beginning of her philanthropic journey, and she has since contributed to numerous other causes.

She plans to continue finding new and creative ways to show her love and support, utilizing the resources she has to make a positive impact.
